United Cerebral Palsy Holds Open House to Celebrate Westlake Expansion
United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland will be holding a Community Open House, Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm to celebrate the opening of UCP Westlake. The facility is located in the Kensington Square Plaza, 28731 Center Ridge Road, Westlake. The event is open to the public and will offer tours of the new location, as well as the opportunity to meet the individuals served and members of the staff. Mayor Dennis Clough will attend the event, and has named May 15, 2008 as UCP Westlake Day.
United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland is proud to provide both children’s and adult services in the new West side location. United Cerebral Palsy Westlake opened its doors to clients March 11, 2008. After almost two years of planning and construction, the facility is fully operational.
The decision to expand to the West side was made in conjunction with the Cuyahoga County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, in response to an increased demand for services.
“There was a demonstrated need for comprehensive programs for individuals with disabilities on the West side,” said Trish Otter, UCP Executive Director. “We are proud to have the opportunity to build upon our existing partnerships and have a greater impact upon the community we serve.”
UCP Westlake is able to provide adult day services for up to 24 individuals in two activity rooms, where individuals participate in social, leisure and recreational activities to enhance quality of life. Programming includes wheelchair tai chi, art and music therapy, and will soon incorporate swim therapy and community outings.
Westlake also offers physical, occupational and speech-language therapies for children, including both a traditional approach and our unique Steps to Independence® intensive program. The location has state of the art equipment in two therapy rooms, including a Universal Exercise Unit.
The mission of United Cerebral Palsy is to advance the independence, productivity and citizenship of people with disabilities. The organization provides services to over 1,500 individuals annually through children’s services, adult vocational services and adult residential services.
