Why We Run

This week’s blog was written by Tricia Martin, the mother of Erin, who receives therapy services at UCP of Greater Cleveland. Together, they have participated in both Team UCP at the Cleveland Triathlon and the Race to Empower 5k and One Mile Fun Run.

Tricia and Erin MartinBeep……Beep……Beep……One eye opens, clock reads 5:29 am. Race Day! Lots to get done before the 9:00 am start. Shower, dress, get Erin up and stretched, then breakfast, medications, dressed and bag packed.

One question….why? Why not just sleep in, since every other day of the week starts at 5:29 am. People ask that often, especially when they find out that I run with my daughter, whose running shoes are wheels and whose legs are a stroller.

I guess the best answer is that for the time we are running, we are just like every other runner out there, based on our abilities and time. My daughter is my racing partner.

Our races have been from 1-mile to Triathlons…..and we look forward to Race to Empower because, first, it is the beginning race of our running season….but most importantly, every other person running this race did the same thing we did that morning. We all followed the “what we can do”. Happy Running and look forward to seeing you May 3rd.
