Medical Mutual – Presenting Agency Partner

MM_Logo_H(WHITE)Founded in 1934, Medical Mutual of Ohio is the oldest and largest health insurance company based in Ohio. For more than 80 years, the company has served customers with high-quality, affordable group and personal health insurance plans, and third-party administrative services to self-insured group customers. As a mutual health insurance company, Medical Mutual is unique in that it operates for the benefit of its members. Unlike publicly-traded insurance companies that must maximize their financial return, Medical Mutual does not answer to stockholders or Wall Street analysts.

UCP of Greater Cleveland is grateful for the support of our corporate donors, especially those whose long-standing partnerships provide significant support to the agency in order to help us meet our program and service goals. One such partner is Medical Mutual of Ohio. Our relationship with Medical Mutual stretches well over ten years and has provided $278,600 in philanthropic support. Just this year, Medical Mutual became our 2016-2017 Presenting Agency Partner, pledging a total of $150,000 to UCP programs during those two years. This major partnership will support growth in both our adult OakLeaf Partners Employment Programs, and also our LeafBridge Therapy Services.

OakLeaf Partners has experienced a dramatic increase in the number of adults referred to the agency for employment services and will place over 100 adults with disabilities into jobs at community business during 2016! The number of referrals for this program is expected to grow even greater next year. Donations from Medical Mutual and other philanthropic partners are supporting the expansion of our staff capacity to meet the growing need for experienced employment placement staff. At LeafBridge we have also seen growth in our extended school year programming, which will expand into an extended school year camp in 2017 with Medical Mutual’s support. This program provides transitional programing over the summer to assist students with disabilities to continue their educational growth and work toward their personal Individual Education Program (IEP) goals during the summer months.

nathan-huiOur partnership with Medical Mutual has also recently expanded outside of philanthropic support. In October of this year, we welcomed Nathan Hui from Medical Mutual to our Board of Directors.

Thank you Medical Mutual. Together, we are empowering children and adults with disabilities to advance their independence, productivity and inclusion in the community!
